All You Can’t See While Staring at Me (No. 1)
7 x 5 x 15 cm
Solid copper
All You Can’t See While Staring at Me is an ongoing series of objects crafted from the raw materials used in the batteries, electronics, and screens of our smartphones: solid copper, lithium ore, aluminium, sand, oil derivatives, and many others.
Each work is accompanied by a video wherein the artist performs the hand movements commonly used to operate our phones, highlighting the intimate connection we have unwittingly established with these physical objects whilst focusing on the digital content of their screens.
Up for auction is the first object in the series. Engaging in a chemical reaction with the polished copper surface, the artist’s fingerprints are permanently imprinted, thus turning the work into a unique record of the hand movements which he performed for the video.
