From the series Pressure and Accumulation — a body of work split into two geological processes. Pressure shows dry cracked earth, geological formations of tufa, and salt encrusted detritus found around the edge of Mono Lake in California. Accumulation pairs found objects from Mono Lake with materials derived from geological processes and extraction, such as gypsum, bitumen, carbon, and rubber latex, to create constructed artifacts in the studio.
Mono Lake is a terminal saline lake with columns of limestone forming tufa towers which rise out of the water. As water was diverted to Los Angeles, Mono Lake’s shoreline receded, revealing the slow geological processes that continue to shape the desert lake and the threatened ecosystem it supports.
